MAN and Penske cross the Ts at TNS

Delivering reliable and timely transport services is largely dependent on the efficiency and safety of each truck. This is why TNS Logistics opted for a new MAN TGX 26.580

A family-owned business operating out of Brisbane, TNS Logistics offers trusted container transport services to an expansive network of national clients.

Established by Tom and Sharon Norton in 2006, the team now includes their two sons, Matthew and Jack, who are working to preserve the company values of trust, innovation, communication and customer service.

“We have always been a family focused business,” said Jack Norton.

“My parents started the company 16 years ago and my brother Matt and I have come on board since then.

Safety and interior comfort were high on Jack’s list.

“We now have a full office and warehouse team, as well as 30 drivers, but it is still very tight-knit.”

TNS Logistics offers end-to-end support and custom 3PL services, utilising a fleet of trucks, semi-trailers, side loaders and utes. According to Jack, when the time came to expand the fleet to accommodate for large palletised freight loads, he knew exactly who to call.

“We had a history hiring MANs through Penske and experience using their demo models, so we knew what the PerformanceLine is capable of,” said Jack.

“We were ready to step up in terms of horsepower and driver comfort, so it was an obvious choice when the time came to acquire a new truck.”

Jack said that TNS Logitstics’ long-standing relationship with the Penske Australia dealership in Brisbane made expanding their fleet easy, saving time and money.

The custom burgundy paint colour and scroll work are dedicated to Jack’s dad.

“We purchased our first truck from them in 2012 and In terms of customer service, they are miles above the rest,” said Jack.

”What has really stood out is their ongoing communication and level of care, to ensure we get the best possible outcome to suit our operation.

“Jayme Deves, the sales representative who has been working with us, has been unreal,” Jack continued.

“He has never let us down and is always there at the drop of a hat to address every problem, no matter how small.

“He is currently organising a driver trainer for the MAN too, so his is a full-spectrum service.”

Penske pointed out that the exclusive PerformanceLine cab is expertly designed to minimise driver fatigue and safety risks. The 12-speed TipMatic (ZF-TX Tronic) gearbox with intuitive shift strategy also contributes to excellent fuel economy and hauling capacity.

“This is definitely our best truck in terms of cabin design and performance,” said Jack.

“It is every driver’s favourite for those reasons and although we have some similar models in the fleet, it has been pulling heavier loads in container cartage with ease.

“It is not chewing through fuel or struggling with trip times and that reliability is vital to us as a transport solutions provider, needing to deliver on time.”

Additionally, the feedback from TNS Logistics’ driver team has been overwhelmingly positive, focussing largely on the level of driving ease and reliability.

“A lot of what we hear back from the drivers has been about the cab’s superior visibility,” explained Jack.

“Having significantly reduced blind spots obviously increases safety.

“The shape of the cabin and the size of windscreen are important in giving the driver clear vision of surrounding traffic.”

Jack said he’s more than happy with the performance of the MAN and he’s not chewing through fuel.

Jack said that the cherry on the cake was seeing how Penske executed the company’s custom burgundy paint colour that has an important sentimental meaning for the family-run business.

“Sharon chose the original burgundy colour in 2006,” said Jack.

“Tom loved traditional scroll work on trucks, but Matt and I always thought it was a bit dated.

“When we both came on board, the design got a facelift and we replaced the detailing with a more contemporary silver stripe.

“But when Dad passed away in early 2020, we decided to honour his memory by re-incorporating the scroll work alongside that silver stripe and naming each truck after his well-known catch-phrases.”

Jack Norton summarised the company’s MAN-Penske experience: “The attention to detail, every step of the way, has been something special.

“We have been incredibly pleased, not only with the product, but with Penske’s ongoing commitment to ensuring our growing business needs are met.”
